108 Dams in high alert in Gujarat due to rains

GANDHINAGAR: An urgent meeting was convened at the State Disaster Management Control Room following heavy rains in the state. According to the meteorological department, besides Banaskantha, Patan, Morbi, Mehsana, Gandhinagar, Panchmahal, Dahod and Gandhinagar are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rains.

There are only two talukas in the state which have received less than 10 mm or less than 10 inches of rain. Kutch district has received 15 percent rainfall while Saurashtra has received 15 percent rainfall. While 4 percent of water is present in Sardar Sarovar Dam, 108 dams in the state are on a high elevation. 1200 people have been continuously displaced in Rajkot.

There is a need to close 14 panchayat roads and 12 roads. So fishermen have been instructed not to plow the sea. About 5% has been planted in the state.
