A spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dismissed allegations of persecution of minorities in Xinjiang province. He has warned that China will respond sternly to the possible boycott of the Olympics.

Spokesman Zhao Lijian said, “The politicization of the Games will hurt the spirit of the Olympic Charter and the interests of the players of all countries.”

He said, “The international community, including the US Olympic Committee, will not accept it.”

Various human rights groups are opposing the holding of these games in February 2022 in China. He has appealed to boycott or take other steps so as to draw attention to the allegations of persecution of the people of Uygar, Tibet and Hong Kong on China.
