Meanwhile, news has come that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has spent Rs 3.5 crore to send its 16-man team to the West Indies. The board had to book a chartered flight for its players to travel from England to the West Indies.

Regarding this, a BCCI official said that the reason for booking the chartered flight was the number of members in the Indian squad, including the players’ wives and the support staff. The BCCI spent Rs 3.5 crore on the chartered flight that took Team India straight from Manchester to Port of Spain on Tuesday afternoon.
Quoting the Times of India, the official said, “The reason for booking the chartered flight for the team was not Covid-19. It was difficult to book so many tickets on a commercial flight. The Indian squad comprises 16 players, including head coach Rahul Dravid and support staff members. Also, the wives of players have traveled to the West Indies.
He added, “Normally, this expenditure would have been around Rs 2 crore in a commercial flight. A business class ticket from Manchester to Port of Spain will cost around Rs 2 lakh. A chartered flight is more expensive, but it is a logical option. Most football teams today have a charter flight to travel with.
