UK prime minister Boris Johnson has cancelled his visit to India owing to the current coronavirus disease (Covid-19) situation in the country. Governments of both nations issued a statement saying that the heads of states of both nations will speak later this month and hold discussions. It also said that both leaders will look forward to meet in-person later this year.
“In the light of the current coronavirus situation, prime minister Boris Johnson will not be able to travel to India next week. Instead, Prime Ministers Modi and Johnson will speak later this month to agree and launch their ambitious plans for the future partnership between the UK and India. They will remain in regular contact beyond this, and look forward to meeting in person later this year,” the statement said.
The UK premier was scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi later this month. The visit was confirmed by both nations but there was no formal announcement of any itinerary.
