The BCCI Now Has Introduced The A+ Category For Umpires: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced the A+ category for umpires. Ten officers have been included in this category. Umpires within A+ and A categories will be paid Rs 40,000 per day for first-class matches and Rs 30,000 for B and C category umpires.
This list has been presented to everyone as ‘Graduation of Umpires,’ although a BCCI official has confirmed that the board has created several categories.
Nitin Menon, a member of the ICC Elite Panel, is one of the 10 A+ category officials. Apart from him, Virendra Kumar Sharma, Anil Chaudhary, K.N. Ananthapadmabhanaman, and Madangopal Jayaraman have also been included.
Grouping took into account after 2021-22 season performance
According to The New India Express, the BCCI official said, ‘It is not grading yet. There are several groups in which the A+ category is new.
B and C category umpires are also very good. He added, ‘When it comes to assigning responsibility to the umpires in home games starting with the Ranji Trophy on top, they are given priority based on the group. The grouping has been done considering the performance of 2021-22.
BCCI has not made any change in the list of umpires since 2018. For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, the board has decided that a full domestic season should be held, planning to organize 1832 games across age groups in the categories of women and men.
The BCCI official further said, ‘We put a lot of emphasis on the elite panel. Nitin Menon is the only Indian umpire in the ICC Elite Panel of Umpires. Also, Menon played the role of the third umpire in the second Test match played in Galle in the two-Test series between Sri Lanka vs Australia last month.
Apart from him, three umpires from England and two umpires from Australia are in the elite panel. The official further said that the entire focus would improve umpiring at all levels.
