‘Saddened by Dr V Shanta’s demise’: PM Modi pays tribute to senior oncologist

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday  condoled the death of senior medical specialist and presiding officer of the Adyar Cancer Institute Dr V Shanta United Nations agency died within the early hours on Tuesday. She was 93.

“Dr. V Shanta are going to be remembered for her outstanding efforts to make sure best cancer care. The Cancer Institute at Adyar, Madras is at the forefront of serving the poor and downtrodden. I recall my visit to the Institute in 2018. Saddened by Dr. V Shanta’s ending. Om Shanti,” PM Modi tweeted.

The veteran medical specialist was admitted to a personal hospital within the town last night once she complained of hurting.

Her body has been emotional to the previous cancer institute premises, that she helped build in conjunction with her mentor Dr. Krishnamoorthy. Dr Shanta compete a very important role within the development of the Cancer Institute from a bungalow hospital of twelve beds to a significant comprehensive cancer centre of national and international stature.

The Padma Shri (1986) and Padma Bhushan (2006) awarded doctor was famous for her efforts towards creating quality and cheap cancer treatment accessible to all or any patients. She was conjointly awarded the Padma Vibhushan and also the Ramon Magsaysay awards.

Dr Shanta was the Chairman and government Chairman of the Cancer Institute (WIA) Madras.
