SA vs PAK: Fakhar Zaman run-out case: MCC leaves decision on umpires

SA vs PAK-Fakhar Zaman run-out case: MCC leaves decision on umpires: Debate has been sparked after Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman’s controversial run-out against South Africa in the second ODI against South Africa, while the guard of the rules of the game, Merrillbone Cricket Club (MCC), said It is the job of the umpires to decide whether Quinton Dickock actually tried to mislead the batsman.

Pakistan had a target of 342 runs in front of the team and in this situation Fakhar played an excellent innings of 193 runs. This batsman, however, was controversially run out, due to South African wicketkeeper Dickock. Pakistan finally lost the match.

While Fakhar was returning to the crease to take a second run, Dickock pointed to bowler Lungi Ngidi, while Aiden Markram threw the ball straight towards the wicketkeeper and was run out. Fakhar was a bit slow in the last moments while taking the second run and could not reach the crease at the right time.

The replay seemed to make Fakhar like Dickock realize that the ball was thrown at the non-striker end.

“Rule 41.5.1 states,” MCC tweeted, “It would be inappropriate to distract or defraud a batsman with intentional words or acts by a fielder after the striker has received the ball.”

MCC said in another tweet, “The rule is clear about deceit with the batsman. It will be decided by the umpire whether such an attempt was made. If yes, then it will not be out, the team batting will be given five penalty runs and will also add two runs which they scored by running. The batsmen will decide who to play the next ball. ”

After the Dicok signal whether it has begun discussions he deliberately attempted to deceive the Fakhar which began to batter the throw being on the other end. This caused the batsman to slow down while taking a second run.

Many former Pakistan cricketers blamed Dickock for Fakhar’s run-out. Former captain Waqar Younis and fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar questioned the South African wicketkeeper batsman’s actions.
