IPL 2021-Punjab Kings-Richardson will deal with IPL pressure with a ‘smile’: The conditions for bowlers in cricket’s shortest format (T20) can be quite difficult and challenging but for the first time Australia is participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Pace bowler Zhai Richardson has found a unique way of dealing with this tension in which he will ‘smile’ before running for bowling.
For the 24-year-old cricketer, this method worked in the Big Bash League where he became the highest wicket-taker in the season. Richardson believes that even after hitting a six, if he has a smile on his face, it will help him to cope with the pressure of playing in the world’s biggest T20 league.
Richardson, who has played two Tests, 13 ODIs and 14 T20 Internationals for Australia, was included in the squad for Rs 14 crore in the IPL auction by the Punjab Kings. He will lead the fast bowling attack along with Mohammed Shami. The Punjab Kings would expect him to bowl better in the last over which was the weak link of the team last season.
Richardson, who is living in Mumbai, told PTI, “I want to go to the ground and enjoy the game.” It is easy to say but quite difficult to do because you will be bowling the best batsman in the world. If I can smile at the runup mark (just before running for bowling) then it will be a big thing for me. ”
“I actually started working on it (smile before bowling) during the big bash,” he said. This smile also has to be kept so that I can assure myself that it will be fun. ”
Richardson, who returned to the game after shoulder surgery last year, said that sometimes after a poor bowling, he is too much on himself. Exerts pressure.
Richardson joins West Indies’ Sheldon Cottrell in the squad. In the last season against Cottrell, Rahul Tewatia hit five sixes in an over.
Richardson said, “Even after good bowling many times, you can get a six against you.” You have to find a way to deal with it at that moment. The good thing for me is that in the Big Bash I was probably the one who needed to bowl in difficult situations. Along with that comes experience. ”
“I am definitely becoming more confident about myself and supporting the ability to bowl better in the last over,” he said.
Richardson was under pressure about his performance after joining the team with a huge amount of money. But after talking to head coach Anil Kumble, his problems were overcome.
He said, “I started putting pressure on myself (on getting a large amount of money in the auction).” Yesterday I had a good conversation with Anil, and he said, “You know that we have bid for you the amount you do on the field for your services.”
He said, “To know this for me It was important that the coach chose me for some reason and I know that I have that ability. ”
