Delhi Police issues traffic advisory in view of farmers’ protest march | Know what routes to avoid

Delhi Traffic has issued traffic advisory for commuters in view of the farmers’ ‘Delhi Chalo’ protest march against Centre’s farm laws.

Delhi Police has enhanced deployment of security personnel as thousands of Punjab farmers moved closer to the national capital on Thursday.

Farmers clashed with police personnel at several border areas in Haryana on Thursday and by late evening, a large number of protesters were close to the national capital, prompting the Delhi Police to close traffic movement at the Singhu Border in view of the ‘Delhi Chalo’ march by farmers from Punjab against the farm laws.

Which routes should be avoided?

Delhi Traffic Police has issued fresh advisories for Friday and, in a series of tweets, asked commuters to avoid several routes.

The official account of Delhi Traffic Police informed that the Tikri border is completely closed for traffic movements by local police. Traffic intending to go towards Haryana is also closed, the tweet mentioned.

“All motorists are advised to avoid this route in view of the protest by Kishan Sangharsh committee,” it added.

Commuters have also been asked to avoid Dhasa Border and Jharoda Kalan Border as they have been closed for traffic movement due to demonstration.

In another tweet, Delhi Traffic Police said, “Obstruction in traffic in the carriageway from Gurgaon towards Dhaula Kuan due to checking by local police near Dhaula Kuan Police chowki. Kindly avoid the stretch”.

Delhi Metro services hit by farmers’ protest march

The farmers’ ‘Delhi Chalo’ protest march has impacted Delhi Metro services as well. While on Thursday, metro services from Delhi to NCR resumed after being suspended for some time, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said services from NCR to Delhi will continue to remain suspended on Friday due to the farmers’ protest march.

This means Delhi Metro will not ply from neighbouring cities to the national capital today, until further notice. However, metro services will be available from Delhi towards the NCR sections, DMRC said.

Taking to Twitter, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Thursday said, “Update for tomorrow (Friday). As advised by Delhi Police, Metro services will be available only from Delhi towards the NCR sections. However, services from the NCR stations towards Delhi will not be available due to security reasons till further notice.”
