The foundation stone for Sri Lanka’s victory was laid by Dinesh Chandimal, who scored the first double century of his career. Thanks to Chandimal’s innings, Sri Lanka took a 190-run lead in the first innings. Chandimal was adjudged Player of the Series for his consistent runs throughout the series. It is a great feeling if you are performing and the team is winning. I didn’t have any plan. I just wanted to be active and especially put pressure on the spinners. The wicket was tricky in the first game, but I wanted to rotate the strike in this match.
When I saw the wicket of this match, I thought this wicket was going to be great for the first three days. I wanted to take advantage of that time. I thought if we took a lead of more than 100 runs, we could put them under pressure.
“Family and friends always supported me” – Chandimal
Chandimal was once the leading player of the Sri Lankan team, but then there came a time when he stopped getting a place in the team. However, he has regained his place in the team by performing consistently well in domestic cricket. He said,
“Thanks to my family. I have seen many ups and downs. Sometimes I was in the team, and sometimes I was dropped, but your family and wife were always with you. My fellow players always supported me. Support staff and fans also supported me”.
