After Sonia Gandhi completed her one-year tenure as interim president in the Congress, the party is now reconsidering its choice of a new president. Taking note of the letter written by 23 Congress leaders to Sonia Gandhi, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) is going to meet tomorrow. Sonia Gandhi also formally replied to the letter. He expressed his desire to resign from the post of party president and to elect a new president together.
Regarding the report that Sonia Gandhi has decided to resign as the party’s interim chairperson, All India Congress Committee (AICC) chief Randeep Singh Surjewala said Sonia Gandhi had not told any leader about it, nor had she informed anyone in writing. We deny this information. However, sources have confirmed in the last few days that Sonia Gandhi had a telephone conversation with Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Demand for Rahul’s presidency
A faction of the Congress wants Rahul Gandhi to be re-elected. The party had said two days ago that activists across the country wanted to see Rahul as president. On the other hand, Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel has also written a letter saying that only Rahul Gandhi should be made the party president.
